Lyndon B. Johnson ~ August 27, 1908 - January 22, 1973
36th President 1963-1969
Johnson sites we've visited:
The first item is an LBJ card sent to my mother-in-law thanking her for the get-well card she sent him in 1967 after his gall bladder surgery 😊
It's well worth a visit.
A moving and speaking LBJ was fun 😊
His Oval Office
Lady Bird's Office
In 2023, the Gerald R. Ford Museum in Grand Rapids, Michigan, had an exhibit on Vice Presidents and included these LBJ artifacts.
The "Lady Bird Special" plane is housed here in the National Museum of the United States Air Force in Dayton, Ohio.
Stonewall, Texas
His reconstructed birth home
The school that he attended.
The LBJ ranch is still a working ranch.
Outside of the ranch house, known as the Texas White House, is the Lockheed JetStar that flew LBJ in and out of the ranch when he was Vice President and President.
The Texas White House and the ranch are beautiful. We toured the house but no indoor photos were permitted but the tour guide did point out the bed Johnson was in when he had his heart attack.
There is a small museum on the grounds holding some great artifacts.
LBJ was a supporter of NASA and the space program both as Vice President and President. Visiting astronauts were asked to autograph a friendship stone.
A couple of LBJ's unique cars.
The family cemetery is located on the ranch. It's fenced off, however, so you cannot walk around in it.
A self-made man, Johnson was a teacher before he entered politics in 1937. He became a savvy politician and yet ended up as an unpopular President fighting an unpopular war.
"Every President wants to do right."
"The noblest search is the search for excellence."
