James Garfield ~ November 19, 1831 - September 19, 1881

20th President 1881 James Garfield sites visited: Garfield's birth site and replica cabin are located in Moreland Hills, Ohio. There's a path behind the cabin that leads to the site where the original cabin was located. We found Garfield's home in Mentor, Ohio, about 30 minutes northeast of Cleveland. It was impressive. This small out-building was his campaign office. Garfield spoke at a revival meeting of this church in Ionia, Michigan, in 1861 and a historic marker memorializes the event. Rapid City, South Dakota, City of Presidents statue: Garfield Monument on Capitol Grounds in Washington, D.C. Garfield was shot on July 2, only four months into his first term, and died on September 19. His burial site in Lake View Cemetery in Cleveland, Ohio, is monumental.
