Benjamin Harrison ~ August 20, 1833 - March 13, 1901

23rd President 1889 - 1893

Benjamin Harrison sites that we've visited:

He was born here in North Bend, Ohio.
Harrison lived and is buried in Indianapolis.
We had an interesting tour of the house with an informative guide.
Harrison and Cleveland were the only presidents to serve under the 44 star flag.
Harrison served only one term, his presidency bookended by the two terms of Grove Cleveland. He is also, to date, the only grandson of a president to become president. A photo of his grandfather, William Henry Harrison, hangs in his house.
The Grand Rapids Public Museum in Michigan has this cool Harrison watch on display.
Benjamin Harrison is buried in Crown Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis and the grave is easy to find.
Harrison was the first president to have a lighted Christmas tree at the white House and the first to have electric lighting installed in the White House. 
We saw nothing about Wounded Knee or Harrison's attitude toward Native Americans but he is a favorite son of Indianapolis (even though he was born and raised in Ohio).

10th President 1841-1845 John Tyler has so many 'firsts' as president. To begin with he was the first Vice President to assume the Presidency upon the death of a President (William Henry Harrison). Congress thought he just assumed the powers of the Presidency but Tyler insisted that he had become the President. It's been the precedent ever since. A Vice Presidential portrait and a ribbon from his presidential campaign, from a 2023 exhibit in the Gerald R. Ford Museum in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Tyler purchased the Sherwood Forest Plantation in Charles City, Virginia, in 1842 and it has stayed in his family ever since. We visited in 2021 but found an appointment was needed for a house tour. Abraham Lincoln ~ February 12, 1809 - April 15, 1865

16th President 1861 - 1865 These are the Lincoln sites we've visited so far.  Birthplace in Hodgenville, Kentucky Boyhood home, Knob Creek Farm, Hodgenville, Kentucky Lincoln Boyhood National Memorial in Lincoln City IN Kentucky Panel (1809-1816) Indiana Panel (1816-1830) Illinois Panel (1830-1861) Washington D.C. Panel (1861-1865) And Now He Belongs to the Ages Panel There's a small exhibit inside the building. The cabin site We walked the Trail of Twelve Stones. And lastly we visited the space in which Abe's mother, Nancy, is buried. Westport, Illinois has a monument celebrating Lincoln crossing into Illinois from Indiana in 1830. Dixon, Illinois claims the honor of having the only statue of Lincoln in uniform. It commemorates his 1832 service in the Black Hawk war. But there's another statue that honors Lincoln's service in the Black Hawk War, located in Pearl City, Illinois. It stands in the same park as the Black Hawk Historic Monument. William Jefferson Clinton ~ August 19, 1946 -

42nd President, 1993-2001 On a trip south in 2024, we spotted a highway sign advertising Clinton's birth home in Hope, Arkansas, so we took a quick detour. In 2023, we traveled to Little Rock, Arkansas. Clinton was Governor of Arkansas from 1979-1981 and 1983-1992.  We toured the Capitol and saw his picture hanging along with other previous Governors. We drove past the Governor's mansion that has a Clinton statue in the front yard. When I got out of the car to take this photo, a guard drove up to the gate to see what I was doing 😁 Sims Bar-B-Que in Little Rock was recommended to us and, not surprisingly, they have a photo of Clinton hanging on the wall. On our way to the Clinton Presidential Library and Museum we walked past the Old State House, which is now a museum. They have some fun Clinton memorabilia. Our main purpose for going to Little Rock was to visit the Clinton Museum, and the building is very impressive. The museum is chock full of items and this is just a sample.
