Andrew Jackson sites visited:
South Carolina claims the site of Jackson's birth, as does North Carolina. South Carolina created a state park that holds a small museum, a Jackson-on-horseback statue, and a marker for Jackson's mother, who was buried in an unmarked grave.
The Hermitage is a plantation owned by Jackson since 1804, in Nashville, Tennessee, We found his house, a museum and his gravesite.
A bell used to call the house slaves.
The Museum
Andrew's mourning hat worn for his wife's funeral (Rachel died in 1828).
There's only brief mention of the Indian Removal Act and the Trail of Tears.
Here is Jackson's gravesite.
This is the grave of Uncle Alfred, born on the plantation, the son of one of Jackson's slaves. Uncle Alfred's request was to be buried near Jackson, for reasons known only to him.
Jackson shares a statue with Polk and Andrew Johnson in Raleigh, NC (Presidents Monument). He got top billing 😊
Rapid City, South Dakota, City of Presidents statue:
Jackson was the first president to marry a divorced woman and the first to kill someone in a duel. He is one of twelve presidents who did not have a college degree.
"It is to be regretted that the rich and powerful too often bend the acts of government to their own selfish purposes."
